Following the recent unveiling of the Federal Way light rail station, King County Executive Dow Constantine proudly declared the project was ahead of schedule and $500 million under budget. Sullivan, however, wasn’t buying it. On The John Curley Show, he pointed out the inconvenient truth: “They moved the goalposts. The Federal Way extension was supposed to open last year, but they shifted the timeline and now claim they’re early. No, they’re eight months late—and that’s just the tip of the iceberg.”
And this is the part most people miss: the Bellevue-to-Seattle line isn’t just another transit project—it’s an engineering marvel (or nightmare, depending on who you ask). It’s the first attempt to build a rail line across a floating bridge, a feat no one has ever accomplished. While it’s undeniably ambitious, Sullivan and Curley questioned whether the billions spent will justify the benefits. “If it only serves a small group of commuters and barely reduces traffic, is it worth it?” Curley asked. “We’re sacrificing carpool lanes and potentially worsening congestion for a train that might carry just a handful of people. Meanwhile, the rest of us will be stuck in gridlock, wondering if this was the best use of taxpayer money.”
