Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko recently celebrated a monumental achievement in the life of his adopted son, Gift Osinya, who graduated from Scott Christian University in Machakos. Gift, just 13 years old at the time, displayed extraordinary bravery by carrying his bleeding brother to safety. Satrine was rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital, where neurosurgeons performed a life-saving operation to remove the bullet.
And this is the part most people miss: Following the attack, Sonko stepped in, adopting the two boys and taking full responsibility for their medical treatment, rehabilitation, education, and overall well-being. He integrated them into his family, providing the stability and care they desperately needed. Reflecting on their harrowing past, Sonko highlighted the brothers’ unwavering courage in the face of unimaginable loss. “Many remember their story: tragedy struck, Satrine was shot in the head by Al-Shabab, and young Gift stood strong like a lion,” he recalled. “God spared them, healed them, lifted them, and rebuilt their lives from ashes.”
Years later, after extensive healing, treatment, and the support of a loving home, Gift’s graduation marks a triumph that Sonko calls a fulfillment of God’s purpose. “To survive that storm and stand here today is nothing short of divine,” Sonko said. “Gift’s journey is living proof that God still performs wonders.” He expressed immense pride in his son, encouraging him to embrace the future with confidence: “Gift, my son, we are proud. This is just the beginning. God’s hand is on you, and every dream He placed in you will come to pass.”
