Grand Theft Auto's New Robotaxis: A Preview of the Upcoming DLC (2026)

Get ready for some serious chaos in the upcoming Grand Theft Auto Online DLC! The new 'KnoWay' robotaxis are about to turn the game upside down.

In a recent expansion, Rockstar Games introduces us to a fictional company, KnoWay, and their autonomous vehicles, which seem to have a sole mission: causing mayhem.

The trailer released last Friday showcases KnoWay vans, equipped with lidar sensors, weaving through city streets, causing accidents, and even crashing through billboards. It's a far cry from the real-world robotaxis we know, but it raises some intriguing questions.

But here's where it gets controversial... While the KnoWay vans resemble Waymo's earlier-generation vans, the behavior depicted in the game is far more chaotic and destructive. Waymo, a real-life autonomous vehicle company, has faced criticism for its role in a growing surveillance state. Their vehicles have become targets of vandalism, with instances of burning, smashing, and tire-slashing reported across different cities.

Rockstar Games seems to be tapping into this real-world frustration, with the tagline for KnoWay's autonomous hailing system: "We Kno where you're going." It's a clever play on words, but it also hints at the potential for players to take out their frustrations on these virtual vehicles.

And this is the part most people miss... The DLC, titled "A Safehouse in the Hills," encourages players to stop the development of a mass surveillance network. It's an intriguing storyline that involves an AI assistant named Haviland, further blurring the lines between the real and virtual worlds.

Waymo, when approached for comment, chose to remain silent. However, their co-CEO, Tekedra Mawakana, spoke out against vandalism at TechCrunch Disrupt in October 2025, emphasizing their focus on working with law enforcement to pursue those committing crimes against their fleet.

So, what do you think? Is this DLC a fun take on the growing concerns around autonomous vehicles and surveillance? Or does it cross a line? We'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments below!
