Barcelona’s recent humiliation against Chelsea might sting more than it seems — not because of the scoreline, but because of who inflicted the pain.
The 3-0 defeat wasn’t just another off night for the Blaugrana. It was a reminder of a costly missed opportunity named Estevão, the Brazilian prodigy who once dreamed of joining Barcelona but ended up shining in Chelsea blue instead. His dazzling performance — including a stunning goal — exposed the cracks in Barça’s defense and reignited a familiar sense of regret at Camp Nou.
But here’s where it gets interesting: Estevão’s former agent, André Cury, believes Barcelona still has a chance to redeem themselves — by not letting another Brazilian gem slip through their fingers.
A New Target: Ederson
In a recent chat with Que t’hi Jugues, reported by SPORT, Cury made a bold recommendation: Barcelona should move fast to sign Atalanta’s Brazilian powerhouse, Ederson. According to Cury, the midfielder’s mix of physicality, tactical intelligence, and experience make him a perfect fit for Barça’s style of play.
“I think Ederson would adapt perfectly to Barcelona’s system,” Cury said. “He brings strength, maturity, and a lot of presence on the pitch.”
This isn’t coming from a random observer. Cury knows Barcelona from the inside. He was instrumental in bringing players like Arturo Vidal and Paulinho to the Catalan side during his collaborations with the club. His voice carries weight in transfer circles.
Why Ederson Could Be a Bargain
Cury highlighted one crucial detail that could make this move particularly smart — Ederson’s contract situation. Although the Atalanta midfielder is officially tied to the club until 2027, the Italian side may soon be pressured into negotiating.
“It’s a great opportunity because his deal is running out,” Cury explained. “Atalanta resisted several big offers in the past, but this winter or summer market could change that. Sooner or later, they’ll have to consider a sale.”
He even hinted that Ederson’s price might drop significantly compared to what Atalanta previously demanded. “They used to ask for 60 to 75 million euros, but now I think Barcelona could sign him for around 30 to 40 million. That’s an incredible value for a player performing at one of the highest levels in Europe right now.”
A Relationship Rooted in Affection for Barça
Beyond transfer talk, Cury also reflected on his personal ties with the club and its current leadership. “I’m close friends with Deco and the president,” he shared. “Whenever there’s an operation where I can help Barça, I will. I have a deep affection for this club.”
A Missed Chance or a Second Chance?
The question now is whether Barcelona will listen. Having once let Estevão slip away, they can scarcely afford to make the same mistake twice. Is Ederson the key piece Barça need to rebuild their midfield — or just another name in a long list of ‘what-ifs’?
What do you think — should Barcelona act fast on Cury’s advice, or look elsewhere for their next midfield leader? Leave your thoughts below; this one’s bound to divide opinions.
